Presence of Peace

Sometimes it’s good to get off the beaten path and just be still. That was my afternoon, specifically, on my drive home from work.

As I finished my last call, I noticed a tint of color in the distant horizon. I knew the Maumee River was nearby and felt my spirit compelling me toward it. I soon realized why. The colors were stunning. My soul was beginning to feel at peace, and then it hit me once again.

Sometimes the world rages all around us. Politics. Social-upheaval. Crime. Worry. Family. Jobs and careers. Anything really. Inwardly, many of us feel the torment of raging waters, most of which (if we’re honest with ourselves) is self-inflicted. But then, there’s nature.

The serenity of the Maumee River this afternoon showcased nature’s calm and a heavenly reminder that peace is present. Sometimes it just takes getting out of the busy lane to see it.

It’s the season for peace on Earth and goodwill toward men. Like I did, take a moment for you and enjoy the grandeur of God’s creation, and breathe in his presence of peace.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. — (John 14:27, NLT)
